TECHNOLOGY USED For the icon, like the Persian miniature, I use the technique of the ninth century Byzantine:
- The panel is first covered with a canvas fine recalling the miracle of the first image (icon) face "not because of the hand of man" - see explanation of The Holy Face;
- Then the wood is coated and prepared by 15 layers of a mixture of glue rabbit and "white Meudon" in a very precise, what is called the Levkas. Drying between each layer takes several hours;
- The panel is then polished pumice to make it as smooth ivory;
- The panel is ready to receive in meditation, gold leaf and paint, my palette is comprised of only natural pigments linked to a medium made of egg yolk - I am very pleased to have acquired this Technical because I have read in a book dedicated to the icon: "The art could never match the freshness and brightness of these colors or exceed their qualities of resistance";
- Drying after a few weeks, I proceeded to the opening of an icon or thumbnail.
My icons, such as tradition, are not signed. I consider myself a "channel" through which The Source manifests itself, to express the deep meaning and invisible things. |
